The Tall Ships Race 2026 Antwerpen

10th to 14th of July 2026.

Once every four years, dozens of sailing ships take over Antwerp. Ships of various sizes moor along the quays and in the city's docks. Thousands of people admire and visit these pearls of the sea.

Hundreds of young people learn to sail

The Tall Ships Races have been organized by Sail Training International (STI) since 1956. The non-profit organization gives every young person the chance to learn to sail. Nationality, (social) background, culture, religion, or gender play no role.

During The Tall Ships Races, these young people, or trainees, sail past various cities. On board the sailing ships, the trainees take on various tasks and learn to work together. Once ashore, they explore the city where they dock. Cultural excursions, sports activities, a party, a crew parade—it is always an unforgettable experience!

Although the name might suggest otherwise, the emphasis at The Tall Ships Races is not on the race itself. What is truly important is the educational and social aspect. STI aims to foster mutual understanding, respect, and international friendships. In 2007, the organization received a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize for this.

Antwerp as “Anchor Port”

In July 2026, The Tall Ships Races have come to Antwerp for the 8th time. The city and port have a long history with the event. That is why Antwerp has been given the honor of becoming the first “Anchor Port”: a host city that receives The Tall Ships Races every 4 years.
